Recognizing a need for a welcoming and supportive place for academics to write and for creators to be productive, Real Academics was started in 2022 with a humble beginning.
At present, 100+ academics and creators from a variety of backgrounds and career phases join us to learn, write, and work alongside each other through our newsletter, writing retreats, and services.

Founder of Real Academics
Associate Professor, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)
Dr. Huerta has a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University. She has researched and published ways to enhance the learning of bilingual children and adults and has won numerous teaching and research awards.
Through Real Academics, she focuses on supporting academics through their writing and research processes and careers. She is the author of two books (click to view!) designed to support academic writers.
Associate Professor and Department Chair, Florida International University (FIU)
Assistant Professor, University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)
Regional Evaluator, Brazos Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (BVCASA)
Dr. Garza has a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University. He has helped students and colleagues navigate statistical analysis for their projects as well as coached them through their research processes and has won numerous teaching and service awards.
He has worked on multiple successful grant project teams to achieve their individualized evaluation and statistical analysis needs.
Meet the Support Team
Rebekah received her Bachelors of Science in Visualization from the College of Architecture at Texas A&M University.
Rebekah has experience working on social media platforms, digital art, and graphic design. She has designed logos, book covers, and has created individualized books with original artwork for select customers.
Hailing from the entertainment capital of the world, Rocky was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was quickly rescued from a bad living environment by the friends of the Las Vegas Valley Humane Society.
He now resides in Miami and loves exploring his surroundings by land or sea.
Rocky is an expert at eating, walking, and playing fetch. When he's not doing any of the above, he's actively guarding his owners' residence and inspiring them to be better humans.
